Air conditioning is standard in many new cars and with hotter summers is becoming such a vital part of driver comfort. Unfortunately though, it is often an overlooked service component of your car.
Over time, without attention, the seals dry out, the gas and oil can leak and components can wear. A check up and re-gas every two years can help to keep your air conditioning in good order and allows any problems to be brought to your attention.
In an A/C service, we replace the gas and lubricating oil, check components for operation and wear, measure vent temperature, look for fungus and growth on the evaporator and give a written report where necessary.
Some helpful tips:
- Even during the colder months, try to run the air conditioning for at least 10 minutes a week, to keep the gas and oil circulating.
- You can combine the A/C and heater to remove mist from the windscreen quicker.
- When in heavy traffic conditions on hot days, try to avoid prolonged A/C use when stationary, it can cause engine overheating.
- If you notice odd smells when using the A/C, turn it off and bring it in for a check over.
